Vamp Con 2009 - American Gothic

(Literary Symposium)

Based not on the fan convention model, but rather on a Harry Potter Symposium model (Our President has presented papers at two such symposia, which are now published in their respective compendiums).  The Symposium will include several tracks of programming ranging from academic presentations through community workshops on the topics of literature, art, and folklore; theatrical makeup, film special effects, and costuming and fashion; writing workshops, keynote speakers, a fashion show, musical performances, an art gallery, possible film screenings, a masked ball, and more.

The fictional theme will be “vampires through American History,” allowing a wide variety of historical costume exploration, amusing forays into alternate history literature, an exploration of various uniquely American historical experiences and the folklore of myriad cultures that have melded together to form our modern day melting pot.  Historical re-creationists, costumers, writers, film makers and visual artists will have a rich field for creative inspiration to explore throughout the four day symposium.
