“The Castle Family Traveling Oddities”
(October 2009 Haunted Event)
Tentatively scheduled for one weekend in October, 2009. This will be a community-oriented, family-friendly H.A.U.N.T.E.D (History and Art United with New Technologies in EDutainment) event aimed at children 12 and under, who can still laugh at a good “startle scare” or who are young enough to still be thrilled but not terrified by caged wolfmen, vampires rising from the dead, and seedy carnival barkers. Parents will love having an alternative to the bloodbaths offered by mega-haunts typically designed to gross-out jaded teens. This non-gory haunt will have a minimum of blood and maximum artistry and talent appropriate for parents to share with their small children. Adults will love the artwork, showmanship, and silly theatrics that will go into creating the entire atmosphere of the attraction, and hopefully enjoy learning a little something in the process.
The primary theme for the haunt is “The History of Halloween and Horror.” Scare-laden rooms will illustrate key points in this timeline: the Celtic origins of Halloween; early horror literature; a homage to the circus sideshow; classic movies; and television. The overall framing script will be the operation of a “Traveling Spook-Show Carnival” of the style popular in America from the 1930’s to the 1960’s. Rooms in the sideshow will therefore possibly include a spook show séance, a museum of art and oddities, a “Treasures of Egypt” room, a chamber of horrors, a freak show, and a stage area for live performances of magic and theatrics.
Funding for the event will be secured through individual donations and sponsorship by businesses and organizations in Seminole county and the surrounding community. Sponsoring organizations receive acknowledgment and advertising as outlined in our sponsorship information packet. Local artists and volunteers are being solicited to create the event, which is also designed as a showcase for the works of these artists.
